The story behind
Philippians 1 verse 12
was the theme verse of winter retreat 2024. During that week it was often about the many trials and troubles we will face, but in it all God aught to be glorified. Paul he suffered shipwreck many times, was stoned, mocked, put in prison many times. This letter to the Philippians was also written when he was in prison. He says that these circumstances “have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the Gospel.”
This let me to think about how the
turmoil in life and how everything should be unto the furtherance of the Gospel. For it doesn’t matter how big the waves around us or how dangerous the storm is. I hope that you might know that “in life and death the anchor held” (John Franklin)
2 Corinthians 12.15
When I was at Breck Road Baptis Church, I was asking the Pastor’s wife about her favourite verse. She brought up this verse in how it has stirred her heart to keep going for Christ when times are hard.
When we are walking with Christ, we understand that it is not an easy road. But the great question when considering the great payment of Christ at the cross. There where he willingly gave his life for the whole world. When considering that, are we willing to Gladly be spent for Christ.
Spend like how a candle would be lit, lit to light a room. In the same way we need to share the light of the Gospel to the whole world. A candle is lit for one purpose, what about you? Are you burning simply and only for Christ. Or are you as a candle lit on both sides? Partly serving God, partly in the world. A double lit candle is useless.
